Highlands & Islands MSP Jamie McGrigor was among stakeholders taking part in a further meeting in Oban yesterday to discuss safety on Loch Awe. Representatives of the fire and police services as well as the RNLI and Argyll & Bute Council were also present. The environmental safety officer of the Council suggested a possible plan on 'Loch spotters'. Further discussions to secure a safety boat will be held with a hope that the Oban Times will soon convene a meeting of the safety boat fund committee.

Later in the day Jamie attended a Community Council meeting at Bridge of Orchy at which members of Oban life boat crew gave a talk on safety and highlighted the importance of people using lifejackets which work and said that at clinics which they give to check lifejackets it is found that many are not working properly or are faulty or inadequate

Commenting afterwards Jamie said:

" Faulty or inadequate lifejackets are a primary cause of death by drowning and this is something which must be put right at national level."
